The Armed Man by Karl Jenkins
In honor of the 100th anniversary of the armistice of WWI, the chorus will present The Armed Man (A Mass for Peace) by the up and coming Welsh composer, Karl Jenkins. This distinctive work includes lyrics drawn from many parts of the world and from diverse religions and cultures, presenting a message of hope for a more peaceful future. Patriotic music will also be presented and the chorus will be joined by an orchestra and the WMC Honor Choir, which includes top-selected choir students from Salem-Keizer area high schools.
Our holiday concert is traditionally the most popular concert of the season. Audiences will enjoy choral music of the season, presented in collaboration with the South Salem High School Symphonic Choir and director Will Mclean. The combined choirs will also perform Magnificat by Johann Sebastian Bach and a selection of shorter carols and holiday favorites.
Beethoven Symphony No. 9
Symphony No. 9 "Ode to Joy" by Ludwig van Beethoven. Featuring the Newport Symphony and soloists Janice Johnson, Laura Thoreson, Les Green and Anton Belov. We will also present selections from the "Liebeslieder" (Lovesongs) by Johannes Brahms, with four-hand piano accompaniment.
Elijah, an oratorio by Felix Mendelssohn. This masterpiece of the classical period depicts events in the life of the Biblical prophet Elijah. This semi-staged performance will include an orchestra of local musicians to accompany the chorus and soloists Laura Aguero, Laura Thoreson, Les Green and Anton Belov.
